Tracking Academic Performance

Many of you have recently had the experience of picking up your student’s report card or getting end of quarter grades.  I hope the news was good and there weren’t any surprises; especially bad surprises.

It is possible, and often a very good idea, to track your students’ academic progress more regularly than just at quarter end.  Many schools now have web access where parents can track how their students are doing on an assignment by assignment basis.  Keeping track of this information can help you identify potential problem areas early and get your student back on track quickly.  If you are not using these resources already you might want to look into them.

Even if you don’t have such resources available to you, it might be a good idea to communicate more frequently with the teacher or teachers.  Most teachers appreciate interested and involved parents and welcome collaborating in your children’s education.
